The Magic of the Three Cards

By Samantha Williams

If you’re planning to pay poker, make sure that you know which of them you want to play. There are actually too many variations of it, with different methods of playing and strategies. But for today, let’s talk about the three-hand poker.

What’s the objective of the game?
The purpose of the three-hand poker is to simply beat the three cards that are being held by your dealer. Another style is to not bet against your opponent but to instead place your stake at your own cards, with the hope that you will be able to garner higher cards or at least a good pair.

Where do you play it?
The game is basically played on a table similar to that used in blackjack. You will only have to work on a single deck of cards. Before the cards will be played by your dealer, you should be able to determine first if you’re going to be beating against him or if you want to do it on your own three cards.  There’s also another option, and it’s about how to bet.  You can bet against your pay schedule or the dealer-whichever works for you at the present moment.

What are the types of bets you can do in a three-card poker?
You have the Wager as well as the Ante. With the Ante, you’re betting against the hand of your opponent, in which case, the dealer. What usually happens right after is that the dealer will play each of the players on the table.  He will be placing three cards in front of you and in front of him. However, these cards should be facing down. When you have received your card, you have the decision whether to continue with the game, or you will declare a fold.  If you decide to fold, you need to place the three cards closer to the dealer.  Again, they should be facing down, so all other players will not be able to know about your hand.  Folding automatically declares the dealer the winner in your round, and you will eventually lose your bet. However, if you decide to go on, you should make another wager, usually equal to the betting spot of the game.

The other kind is to wager against your own cards. A very common type is the Pair Plus, wherein you hope that you get higher ranks for your three cards or at least a pair. The wagers should be placed right in front of every player.

Right after the bet has been given, all should be able to decide whether to play their cards or fold. The three cards should remain face down all throughout the decision-making process.  Keep in mind that you’re not betting on someone but on the cards. When all have already decided, the dealer shall then turn the face of the card and confirm if there is a queen or at least a higher-ranking card. If there is, the role of the dealer is to face the hands of the player who decided to go on with the game. This is because the dealer’s hand is considered to be qualified for the game. If you have higher cards than the dealer, you win a bet equivalent to the amount you placed. So if you bet on $10, that’s what you’re going to receive in the end. If the dealer’s hand doesn’t have any queen, it’s not considered qualified, and he has to pay all those who decided to stay in the game.
