The rules of poker are as follows:
1) The Basic Rules: First the cards are ranked from the highest to the lowest. Ace is the highest followed by king, queen, jack, ten, nine up to two. There are four suits- spade, club, heart and diamond. However none of the suits are higher than one another and all have the same value. The game is played with each player getting 5 cards and the winner is the player who has the highest value hand. Sometimes there is a wild card which can take the form of any suit or value the player desires. Generally, jokers are used as wild cards.
2) The Rankings of the hands: The hands are ranked from the highest to the lowest according to the value of the cards. It is further described as follows:
a) Five of a kind: This is the highest possible hand which can be got only with the use of a wild card.
b) Straight Flush:
c) This means that the hand consists of all the 5 cards in an order from the same suit. An ace high straight flush is called royal flush and is the best natural hand.
d) Four of a kind: This simply implies four cards of the same rank. If there is a tie then the hand with highest value cards wins.
e) Full House: It means a hand which consists of 3 cards of a kind and a pair.
f) Flush: When all the cards are from the same suit.
g) Straight: A straight refers to 5 cards in order like 2, 3,4,5,6.
h) Three of a kind: This means three cards of any rank with two random cards.
i) Two Pair: This refers to the hand consisting of two distinct pairs along with a single random card.
j) Pair: It means that there is one pair and three different cards.
k) High Card: If nobody has any of the above hands then the player with the highest cards wins.
