A general overview
Gambling is game of fortune. The most interesting thing
in gambling is that there is a chance of winning a lot
of money. Gambling can be legal or illegal, but the
popularity of gambling can never decrease. It is the
inherent nature of every person to take risk. For most
of the people gambling is the place to enjoy and also to
make money. Gambling can be done in casino, at home and
also with the help of Internet on the computers. The
gambling can be done only if it is allowed in the state
laws. Canada has given some exemption to the gambling
laws.
Gambling laws in Canada
The gambling was banned in Canada under the Criminal
Procedure Code of the state, which treats the gambling
as inherently criminal in nature. It is banned in Canada
since 1892 under the article 206. It is exclusively the
matter of federal regulation in Canada therefore on only
the federal parliament can alter this
law. In the year
1969,the criminal code was amended in Canada, which gave
some exemptions to the gamblers. This amendment allowed
the groups on limited basis, as long as they contribute
to the public good. Another amendment came in the year
1985, which lifted the ban on gambling in the provinces
and the Canadian provinces agreed to pay the federal
government a share of the proceeds. Since then, gambling
has became a major part of the economy of Canada and
relying on the gambling trends it is essential for
Canada to lift all the bans on gambling.
Online gambling laws in Canada
Online gambling is not legal in Canada. Despite this
fact a lot people are gambling on the Internet and it is
very difficult to control the online gambling. it is
difficult to control online gambling because it is
difficult to control the website and any person having a
computer. In a recent research it was seen that the
number of gambling websites were 15 in 1997 have
increased there number to 250, by the end of the year
1998. This growth is even more than the United States of
America. So, the gambling especially the online internet
gambling has an amazing prospects in Canada.
