						As
the Internet has become more accessible to the common
people, the popularity of e-commerce has increased
beyond expectations. E-commerce, or selling products
online, is now a feasible option for even the smallest
of businesses. And for those who don't sell their
products themselves, joining an affiliate program is a
convenient, and often more profitable, way to
participate in e-commerce without expensive overhead or
						investment costs.
 What is an affiliate program?

An affiliate program is an arrangement where one website
(the affiliate), posts a link to another website (the
merchant). The merchant site sells goods or services,
and pays the affiliate site for the amount of traffic or
sales generated through their site. In general,
affiliate programs are very easy to join and quick to
set up. With so many kinds of affiliate programs
available, it is comparatively easy to find one that
suits your company's needs. By understanding how each
one of them works, you can increase your chances of
earning a significant income. In this arrangement,
affiliates are paid for the number of visitors that they
send to a site who purchase something. They may earn a
percentage of the sales, or they may receive a flat fee
per. This arrangement pays based only on how many people
visit the merchant site, regardless of whether they buy
anything or not. Affiliates are paid for each person who
visits the merchant site and qualifies as a lead. To
qualify as a lead, the person simply fills a form on the
site, and the merchant uses the information as a sales
lead, or sells it to other sites as a sales lead. This
structure allows affiliates to earn money in two ways,
first through the number of visitors they refer through
their own site, and through affiliates they sign up. If
they refer affiliates to the merchants, they earn a
percentage of the new affiliate's sales. Multi-tier
programs are often the most profitable, because as the
merchants site grows in popularity, both the merchant
and the affiliates share the revenue. And because so
many people are affiliated with the site, it helps to
promote the merchant and increases their visibility.

What kinds of links do affiliate programs use?

Affiliate programs use several types of links, and
choosing the most appropriate kind for your site is the
key to attracting the most customers possible. This
allows the visitors to search for a product or service
they need, and will take visitors directly to the
						merchant's website.
