Hellmuth Joins TASER FundraiserTwenty lucky people will have the opportunity to play poker against the best, Phil Hellmuth, at a poker tournament hosted by the TASER Foundation to raise money for the families of fallen law enforcement officers. One hundred other players will get a chance to learn from the nine-time World Series of Poker Champion and participate in the general tournament.
The TASER Foundation, a non-profit foundation to honor fallen law enforcement officers, will hold its Texas Hold'Em Poker Tournament fundraiser on Saturday, November 5, 2005 at TASER International headquarters in Scottsdale, AZ. Major sponsors include the Poker Players Alliance, GT Distributors Inc of Austin, TX and Dittus Communications of Washington, DC. The event includes prizes to the top 10 finishers, a silent auction, cigar and martini bar and live entertainment with 100% of the net proceeds to go directly to support the families of fallen officers. "This is a unique opportunity to meet one of the best professional poker players in the world, learn tips and strategies and test your own poker skills all while supporting the families of those who have paid the ultimate price," said Gerry Anderson, Executive Director of the TASER Foundation. "With Phil Hellmuth's support, we anticipate an exciting and successful event to support our fallen officers," concluded Anderson. Every year more than 150 police officers are killed in the line of duty. The average age is just 37-years-old. Their loss creates a lifetime of need for their families. The TASER Foundation is dedicated to helping meet those needs. In November 2004 TASER International Inc. established the TASER Foundation with a mission to honor the service and sacrifice of officers lost in the line of duty. The initial $1 million endowment was raised by TASER International and its employees. During the first year the TASER Foundation has granted $715,000 to over 140 families across the Untied States and Canada.
