Las Vegas Sands Offers Workshops Las Vegas Sands Corp., the company that plans to redevelop the former site of Bethlehem Steel into an entertainment, shopping and historical destination, is reaching out to the local community with workshops on February 6 and February 21. The first workshop will give small, minority and women owned businesses information about vendor opportunities. The second workshop will focus on employment opportunities for those interested in working at the redevelopment. The redevelopment will include a casino, a museum that is dedicated to the history of "The Steel" and the area's industrial heritage, a shopping center, a world-class arena for entertainment, and a new housing complex. "This is a great opportunity for us to meet the people in the community and outline the way they can benefit from our project," said Andy Abboud, vice president of government relations and community development. "And we are really fortunate to have the backing of many of the local community groups." The workshops are sponsored by Las Vegas Sands Corp. with assistance from the Community Action Development Corporation of Bethlehem, the Hispanic Chamber of the Lehigh Valley, the Small Business Development Center, and the Tri-City African American Chamber of Commerce. The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board is not a sponsor of these workshops. Workshop details are as follows: Opportunities for Local Businesses to Supply the Sands BethWorks Project February 6, 2006, 4:30 - 6:30 p.m. Banana Factory, 25 West Third St., Bethlehem This workshop will focus on the procurement opportunities for area businesses to supply the new project, both in the construction phase and the operations phase. The workshop will also detail sub-contracting opportunities for local businesses. Employment Opportunities February 21, 2006, Two Sessions Available - 9:00 - 10:30 a.m. or 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. Northampton Community College, Southside Campus, Bethlehem Las Vegas Sands Corp. is recognized as a great company to work for and this workshop will outline the new job opportunities that will be available at the Sands BethWorks redevelopment.
