Connecticut AG Supports Tribal Casino Union Ruling As reported by the Connecticut Day: "State Attorney General Richard Blumenthal on Wednesday applauded a federal ruling that allows Indian casino workers to unionize and engage in collective bargaining.
"Blumenthal said the National Labor Relations Board finalized a decision on Sept. 30 that it first announced in June allowing those working in commercial enterprises on Indian reservations to form unions. "Blumenthal had filed a friend-of-the-court brief urging the NLRB to find that workers at Indian-owned casinos have the right to form unions. He was the only state attorney general to support the rights of casino workers at Indian-owned facilities. "…Blumenthal said he still respects the sovereign status of federally recognized tribes. "The ruling affirms federal labor laws apply, and the NLRB has ruled tribal employees do not surrender labor law rights when working on an Indian reservation…"
