Philadelphia Casinos Would Add Jobs, RevenueAs reported by the Philadelphia Business Journal: "Two casinos slated for construction in Philadelphia could generate between $668 million and $747 million in their first full year of operation, according to the final report of the Philadelphia Gaming Task Force released Thursday.
"Philadelphia, which has been approved for two of the 14 casinos to be built throughout Pennsylvania, will also get between 7,000 and 12,000 new, permanent jobs from the casinos, according to the report. "Of the many sites considered, the task force gave the thumbs down to proposed sites at 8th and Market streets and Penn's Landing in its 436-page report. The 2.8-acre site at 8th and Market was considered too small. The Penn's Landing site, though large enough, could be used for "higher and better uses" because of its key waterfront location, the report said. "Gaming revenue could be maximized by placing one of the city's casinos near the Schuylkill Expressway and Route 1 and the other either along the Delaware River waterfront or in Center City, which would allow them to reach the broadest possible market, the report said…" |
