Hit or stand is a somewhat obscure variation on traditional blackjack that is mostly encountered online. There may in fact be some real-life casinos that offer hit or stand, but you'd be hard pressed to find them. It's best to think of hit or stand as you would blackjack, only with the number nine in place of the traditional twenty one.

As with blackjack, players in Hit Or Stand must continue drawing until they get as close to a total of nine as they can. The difference is, there's no such thing as a bust card in hit or stand; if a total takes a player into double-digit territory, the first number (which is always one) is dropped, and the hand is scored on the basis of the second number alone. So, you ask, why is the first number always a one?

In hit or stand, there are no points awarded for tens and face cards--they are marked as zeros. Hence, an eight and a seven gives you a score of five since the numeral one from the 15 is dropped. As you may have deduced, then, the odds of winning at hit or stand are exactly 50-50. This makes the game one of the most intelligent bets in any online casino, yet people still seem reluctant to play.

As with most other online casino games, hit or stand matches the player up directly against the dealer. Typically, there are fourteen player spots, with seven gamers lined up on each side of the dealer. The final two spots are numbered 14 and 15, since unlucky 13 is summarily dropped from the equation.
