Sport Gambling Handicapping

by Jerry "Jet" Whittaker

About sport handicapping in short:

The term handicap originally derived from hand in cap. Actually it was a popular event in the seventeenth- century lottery game where the players placed all their bets inside their caps. Handicapping in sports and games is actually the practice of assigning advantage through scoring compensation or other advantage given to different contestants to equalize the chances of winning. It can also be applied to the various methods by which the advantage is calculated. Many a times handicapping is also used in reference for the various methods by which spectators can predict and quantify the results of a sporting match. Handicapping can also be applied to the practice of predicting the result of a sporting competition like the purposes of betting against the point spread. In such a condition the favored team that wins by less than the point spread still wins the game however the bets on that team lose. At present handicapping is used for scoring many games and competitive sporting events including go, chess, golf, bowling, polo, yacht racing, and many other track and field events. Often handicapping also serves to foster wagering on horse racing events. The races contests or the tournament where the practice is completely employed is known as handicaps.

Handicapping in horse races:

Handicapping indeed plays a very critical role in horse racing. Here I this article we are going to discuss a few of the important aspects of thoroughbred handicapping. Actually thoroughbred handicapping is the art of predicting horses that has the maximum chances of winning a specific race and thus getting profits from these predictions at the venue of the horse race. Handicapping in a horse race involves predicting the winning chances of a horse by gathering detailed statistical information about each horse that entered in the race as well as the detailed past performance results, the lifetime records of the horse, the amount of money earned, odds for the particular horse in each past race and a myriad of other information available for casual or serious study. The theory of handicapping is probably considered as one of the most enigmatic theories in all the forms of sport. However in general most of the predictions made by a handicapper are made on four main elements that include speed, pace, form and class of a particular horse.
