What is gambling and it effects?
Gambling is also known
as betting and people participating in gambling has to
loose or win. However this topic examines gambling
involvement among the general population in Washington
State. Here as one wins, the other looses and if the
family oriented person who looses may increases the
risk for such negative
outcomes as divorce, bankruptcy, child abuse, domestic
violence, crime, and it can reach upto suicide also.
Participation of people in gambling than the general
population
in Washington:
In every recent survey
of gambling participation, the great majority of the
respondents state that they have participated in one or
more of the gambling activities included in the
questionnaire and the proportion of respondents who have
ever gambled ranges from 84% in Iowa to 92% in New
Jersey. In Washington State, 91% of the respondents said
that they had participated in one or more of the
gambling activities included in the questionnaire and
have chances to increase the number of people
participating in gambling.
The participation of
female in gambling is 51% while that of male are 41% in
Washington State. As compared to the last survey
participation of female has decreased by 2% while that
of men have increased by 2% in Washington. While the
people under 30 have 19% participation in gambling; and
above 30 ages have 81% participation. The whites in
Washington have 90% participation and non-whites have
10% participation in gambling. The participation of
married people in gambling is 60% and that of
non-married people are 40%.
As in other states,
different types of gambling in Washington State appeal
to very different groups of players and there are
significant differences in the characteristics of
non-gamblers, infrequent gamblers, past-year gamblers as
well as weekly gamblers for every type of wagering done
by Washington
State respondents.
According to the
information, young, minority men with low education and
income are more likely to play pulltabs, arcade and
video games, card games with friends and the lottery's
Daily Game than the general population where they find
it easy way to earn money. Young men with low education
but with substantial income are more likely to be sports
gamblers than the general population who have
participated in gambling. Older, White men with higher
education and income are more likely to play the instant
lottery games and Lotto or Quinto than the general
population where some people play for their happiness
and very few play for donating that money to some
institution or church. Older, well-educated men with
lower income are more likely to wager weekly on horse or
dog races while less regular horse bettors are more
likely to be young, well-to-do men than the general
population in gambling.
White women with annual
household incomes over $25,000 are more likely to
participate in raffles and non-Indian bingo while young,
minority, lower income women are more likely to play
Indian bingo than the general population participating
in gambling. Young, unmarried men and women with higher
income are more likely to wager on card and dice games
at Indian casinos while older, married, White men and
women with higher education and income are more likely
to travel out-of-state to play gaming machines as well
as casino table games than the general population.
Individuals who wager on speculative investments are
more likely to be affluent than the general population
in gambling activities like casino, lotteries, etc.
What are the favourite
gambling activities of people in Washington?
Overall 24% of people
love to play Lotto or Quinto, 19% of people like gaming
machines at out of state Casinos, while card games with
friends or families are about 12%. About 8% like cards
or dice at Out-of-State Casinos, 7% of them like horse
or dog races, 4% of them like Instant lottery games and
3% like pulltabs, raffles and Non-Indian bingo. While 2%
people like activities such as card rooms, Formal sport
pools and speculative investments.
