As reported by the Boston Herald: “House Speaker Salvatore DiMasi stacked the deck against slot machines by inserting three loyalists onto a key committee the day before it cast a crucial vote in the downfall of the gambling measure, lawmakers charge.
“On Monday, DiMasi added three of his lieutenants to the House Rules Committee. The next day, it opposed a bill allowing slots by an 8-4 vote, a majority that included the new members: Rep. John Rogers (D-Norwood), Rep. A. Stephen Tobin (D-Quincy) and Rep. Byron Rushing (D-Boston). Three committee members were also absent.
“?With a vote against slots secured in committee Tuesday, the full House voted on its recommendation, a parliamentary move that Jones said blocked any amendments from being made.”
