As reported by the Sun-Herald: “A mid-morning fire in the remains of Grand
Casino Gulfport’s barge was caused by sparks as demolition workers were
cutting on it, said Fire Chief Pat Sullivan. “A lot of coin wrappers
remained inside the barge, but there’s no telling what other debris was left
inside after Hurricane Katrina, according to Sullivan. “Firefighters brought
three trucks to the beachfront barge to put out the fire that sent a plume
of smoke drifting upwards…”
