An
overview on online gambling:
The term online gambling is a general term that is used
to refer any sorts gambling using the internet. Some of
the most common forms of online gambling are done
through online poker rooms, online casinos and online
sport betting websites. Most of the online poker rooms
generally offer card games such as Texas holdem, Omaha,
Seven card stud and many others commonly in the form of
both tournament and ring game structures. In the online
poker rooms the players play against each other instead
playing against the house and then card room makes its
money through the rakes and the tournament fees. In the
online casinos the players can play casino games such as
roulette, blackjack, craps, baccarat and many more. In
online casinos the players have to play against the
house which makes its money since all the odds are in
its favor. There are also a lot of bookmakers and
betting exchanges available on the internet that offers
fixed odd gambling over the result of various popular
sporting events.
The darker side of online gambling:
It
may sound unreal but for many of us
an
addiction to online
gambling proved to be more than we could handle. The
only problem is that we often get to know when we
already have lost something important or when we are
already in the deep waters. If we type casino into any
internet search engines hundreds
of gambling sites surface. Spending any time on the Web
it is almost certain for anyone to run across ads that
try to lure the surfers to visit a gambling site. With
names like Prestige Casino, River Belle, and Aces High,
these online casinos try to convey all the pizzazz of
the Las Vegas Strip. And unfortunately people are also
betting Vegas sized bank rolls. A recent survey about
online gambling revenues have found out that the amount
of money pouring into Internet casinos has skyrocketed
from $2.2 billion in 2000 to $4.1 billion this year,
which is about 5% the size of legal gambling industr7y
in the United States. The study also concluded that
1,500 gambling sites have sprouted across the globe,
more than double the 650 casinos on the Internet two
years ago and they are covering bets from approximately
4.5 million people worldwide, slightly over half of them
from the U.S.
