An
introduction to NFL:
NFL stands for the abbreviated form of the National Football
League.
Formed in the year 1920, as the American Professional
Football Association, the NFL adopted its
present name in 1922.
It is
the largest professional American football league,
consisting of thirty-two teams from American cities and
regions. All the teams of the league are divided into
two into two conferences. They are the AFC or American
Football Conference or the NFC or National Football
Conference. The two conferences are further sub divided
into four divisions that consists of four teams namely
the East, West, North and the South. Generally each of
the teams plays sixteen games over a period of seventeen
weeks during the leagues regular sessions that starts
from September till January. In the end of each regular
session six teams from each conference are selected to
play in the NFL’s playoffs, which is basically a twelve
team single elimination tournament that culminates with
the NFL championship called as the super bowl. The
popular sporting event is played at a pre selected site
usually a city that hosts an NFL team. After one week of
this event, selected all star players from both the
sides that is the AFC and the NFC meet in the pro bowl,
which is currently held in Honolulu the capital of
Hawaii.
Gambling in NFL as a boost to its popularity:
As
with all the other popular sporting events in America
the NFL season also attracts loads of sport betting
which also acts as a boost for the events popularity and
advertisement. However betting with the NFL requires a
great deal of data, logical thinking and effort.
Generally most of the
betting with NFL
is through bookmakers. However in the America most of
the
legality of Internet wagering is ambiguous, due to the
fact that online bookmakers generally operate outside of
the U.S and hence many online bookmakers do not accept
wagers from the U.S. due to these unresolved legal
questions. Generally in NFL foot ball gambling rather
than varying the money odds, which can be substantial in
lopsided matches, the point spread betting system is
used. This type of wager typically requires a bettor to
risk $110 to win $100, the extra $10 being the
bookmaker's vigorish if the wager loses.
