Gambling Impact:
Though gambling is considered as a fun activity but
gambling addiction has a bad impact on gamblers, their
family and society as well. Gambling is a good leisure
game if you played it just for fun. But when you become
addicted with it, then it is a problem for you. The
adverse effects of gambling disturb you in your family
and work place.
However, it is the family who finally has to bear the
ultimate outcome of pathological gambling and paid for
it. Family members frequently experience the trauma of
divorce, child abuse and neglect, and domestic violence
due to gambling addiction problem.
Specific Impacts of Gambling:
There are some specific impact of gambling as per
studies and research. These common impacts are:
Suicide:
Suicide is the very common problem with the addicted
gamblers. According to the National Council on Problem
Gambling, approximately one in five pathological
gamblers attempts suicide and it is noted that the
suicide rate among pathological gamblers is higher than
for any other addictive disorder. After continuous
loosing in gambling or huge loss the gamblers become
frustrated and attempt to commit suicide.
Divorce:
Many families of pathological gamblers suffer from a
variety of financial, physical, and emotional problems
that may leads to divorce. A nationwide survey in USA by
the National Gambling Impact Study Commission reported
that respondents representing 2 million adults
identified a spouse’s gambling as a significant factor
in a prior divorce.
Homelessness:
Homelessness is another big problem arise due gambling
behavior. Gamblers are often found as homeless. The
Atlantic City Rescue Mission reported that 22 percent of
its clients are homeless due to a gambling problem. In
USA you find more individual as homeless only for
gambling problem.
Child Abuse and Neglect:
As
compulsive gamblers are not serious about their family
and children therefore such children often prone to
suffer abuse, as well as neglect. Sometimes children
have died due to parent’s pathological gambling impact
on their family. Most of the child in many of the states
feel insecure and isolated because parental addiction on
gambling.
problem gambling is as much a risk factor for domestic
violence as alcohol abuse as studied done by University
of Nebraska Medical Center.
So,
we can understand what a bad
impact of gambling
has! Therefore we people must conscious that gambling
should exist only as a fun activity and not as a
universal problem for us.
