Gambling Addicts:
Gambling is a leisure activity that ranges from buying a
lottery ticket to placing a bet at a racetrack. In US
and other western country gambling is considered as the
recreational activity playing which you can earn some
quick bucks also. But once start gambling it has seen
that most of us addicted with this activity. When you
are no longer able to set limits and control their
compulsion to playing gambling it’s become your
addiction. Addiction may create serious mental,
physical, personal, financial, family problems for
gambler. Gambling addiction is more common among youth
these days like alcoholic and narcotic addiction due to
advent of online gambling.
Addicted gambler always bet more money that they can
afford. They avoid their personal duty and family
responsibilities and only concentrate on gambling.
Gambling addicts basically go through the following four
stages:

Winning phase:
In this phase gambler go through some big win which
motivate him for further gambling.

Losing phase:
Here gambler looses big match but to chase such lost
he borrow more money for gambling.

Desperation phase:
In this phase gambler to overcome his lose applied
illegal way of finance money for gambling.

Helpless
phase:
This is the last phase where gambler becomes
helpless which lead to divorce or suicide
Treatment for Addicts:
Do
you suffering from gambling addiction? Don’t hesitate to
consult with psychiatric or physician as it is very
dangerous problem. Early treatment can help you to
overcome your addiction problem. Basically counseling,
education, psychological therapies are effective method
of treatment for gambling addiction. Now a day’s
medication has also shown some promise for controlling
of gambling
addiction.
Medication for Addicts:
Although pathological gambling is relatively common
disorder but there exist only a limited medication for
this behavioral problem. All forms of addiction problem
are quite similar in nature as they are basically a
psychological disorder of patient. Therefore addiction
preventive medicines are quite similar to each other.
Naltrexone, a very effective medicine for alcoholic and
narcotic addicts has been shown promising results in
treatment of gambling addiction. Recently
American Journal of
Psychiatry indicates a new drug, Nalmefene
that may help to reduce urges in pathological gambling.
There are some other antidepressants drugs such as
Prozac, Zoloft, and Luvox which may help in controlling
of gambling addiction. Medicines such as fluvoxamine
(Luvox), paroxetine (Paxil), fluoxetine (Prozac), and
citalopram (Celexa) may help you control your thoughts,
urges, and behaviors which may effective in controlling
gambling addiction. There is another effective medicine
for pathological gambler called clomipramine. There are
two drugs called as lithium and divalproex sodium
(Depakote) which regarded as mood stabilizer which may
help you to prevent gambling behavior. Antipsychotic
medicine such as olanzapine (Zyprexa), risperidone
(Risperdal), or quetiapine (Seroquel) may also be
helpful.
