Illegal online gambling
Gambling online is now
been made very strictly illegal. A new bill is been
introduced in the US legislature which says “gamble
online and you could go to jail”. This bill is known as
the Internet Gambling Prohibition Act. This act will
makes it illegal to bet over telephone, or through the
internet. The law also says that gambling using the
internet is illegal in the US, but it also seeks to
target offshore gambling sites that are frequently in
use by the Americans. These offshore sites are specially
forbidden from accepting credit cards, checks or any
type of cash from the US players. Penalties for
violation have been raised from two to five years in
jail, where your only gambling will be with cigarettes.
Online gambling has been a
growth industry for the past several years. Sports books
were also famous for some time. More recently the rice
of a number of poker game sites, some of which are pay
to play supported the growth of the industry. These
internet gambling sites are estimated to take in upward
of US $12 billion annually. Half of that comes from
gamblers in the US, and the impact of this is that many
of the Americans are using the offshore gambling sites.
The reasons why online or
internet gambling is made illegal because children are
very found of internet and they may tend to try
something new and end up with online gambling. The other
reason is that online gambling will lead to a rise in
gambling addictions. Gambling addictions increase
because of the gambling environment of the online
casinos. This is because the gambler is not using the
chip money and he is not sure of how much he has won or
lost. Although unspoken by the mist state officials, a
fourth reason why states want to prohibit online
gambling may be because of the need to protect state
revenues generated by legal and state-run gambling
operations. The legalization of online gambling can
cause gamblers to gamble illegally. This can protect the
state revenue by taxes on gambling.
These are the reasons why
the states are trying to make gambling
online illegal.
This in turn will save the people and will help in the
profit of the state in some way or the other.
