Sports gambling:
Gambling is nothing but
the game of staking money and valuables in order to win
more of it. The act generally requires a high degree of
skill and practice. Normally, gambling is met with a
negative public opinion, as it is believed to be ruining
the society. But the fact that it promotes economic
activities is considered to be a practical way of
looking at it. Gambling in general, includes sports
gambling as well as lotteries and chance games in
casinos. Sport gambling is legal in some countries and
forbidden on others. Such states have a conflict between
morality and practicality, but still sports gambling
prevails.
The states that favor
sports gambling do it because they feel that it
increases the popularity of the sport and the sport wins
more and more followers. This can be seen from the
position of cricket as a sport in India. The wagers who
indulge in sports gambling are called “bookmakers” or
“bookies” commonly.
Recently, betting on
sports like baseball, basketball, boxing, and football,
although illegal in many states, has seen a boost. These
bookies generally establish two sets of odds, one for
each side of the bet, so that they gain, whatever be the
result of the event.
The legality behind
sorts gambling:
Sport betting on
internet encaptures the imagination of many a people but
it also raises a doubt in their minds about its
legality. It is pretty normal for a person to think if
they are violating a local or a national law when they
indulge in sports betting. As far as the United States
of America is concerned,
sport gambling
is highly regulated over there. Although, the act done
by minors is prohibited but adults can do it provided
they keep in mind the legalities and the restrictions so
involved in it. This contradicts the general perception
regarding gambling, but practicality seems to have
overruled these perceptions. As far as regulation of
sports betting in US goes, it was left completely to the
choice of the individual constituting states to legalize
it or even make it illegal. It should be further noted
that no American citizen has so far been arrested for
betting on the internet. It is so that there is a
precise law that forbids internet gambling in the three
American states of Nevada, California, and Louisiana.
