The Fallacy of Online Poker Gambling

Gambling is nothing but taking speculative risks usually
by playing games of chance to win money or some other
stake. It is as old as mankind. But more often than
naught what starts out as a pastime for fun may turn
into a compulsive addiction that is very hard to
control. Poker gambling is a very popular form of
gambling, a game of cards played at a table in a casino
room. Now, with the advent of the internet technology,
gambling has become more widespread and has entered the
household of many a family.
What are online Casinos?
An online casino is an internet website, usually secure,
which allows you to sign up and play classic games such
as slots, roulette or video poker for fun or real money
without having to leave the comfort of your home. Most
of these online casinos allow you to practice the games
for free before you decide if you will try and play for
real cash.
Is online gambling legal and safe?
Many regions where the online casinos are located
requite the casino management to acquire licenses and
post bonds of cash or insurance as part of the
agreement. This ensures that the casino will be able to
pay their winners the amount wagered. To get a license
for online gambling the casino management has to undergo
some extensive government checks. Your personal security
such as credit card details and personal information is
also ensured against misuse under license agreements in
all jurisdictions. Many online casinos use secure
servers to conduct all transactions and all your
personal information is stored offline. They may also
use 28-bit encryption thus the risk of some fraud
getting your personal information is one in
340,282,366,920,939,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 or
let’s just say ‘not possible’
The dangers of online poker:
There is more to
online poker rooms than meets the eye. Unlike in a
real poker room where we can feel the opponent’s
weaknesses we are unaware of the same in a virtual
arena. We do not even know who is sitting on the left
and who is sitting on the right of us. We don’t even
know if the opponent is a human or a robot, a highly
specialized computer playing against us. But the worst
trick of all is we never know if our opponents are
sitting in the same room and playing against us or they
may be miles apart and cheating by telling each other
the cards. Thus you can judge for yourself how risky it
is to play poker online. Not only may you never get paid
your winnings, if any, but also you may never win at
all.
