Issues on the legalization of the game:
Centuries ago gambling used to be a game of royal class
& available only to the well to do class of the society.
However things have certainly changed with time. Now a
day with the advent of computers and the Internet
revolution this activity has made its rounds through
every nook & corner of the globe. Still the burning
question of its legalization threats the very existence
of this popular activity in various parts of the world.
In the United States itself, where net gambling can be
assumed as a regular activity for the common man there
has been stringent rules issued by the federal statue of
the United States & the regulation committee according
to which internet is explicitly prohibited domestically
or commercially within the country or abroad. There is
also prosecution terms under the wire act under which a
person if found engaged in the betting or wagering using
a wired communication for transmission of interstate or
foreign currency
or in gambles in any contest or sporting event may
undergo an imprisoned of more than two years or may be
fined accordingly.
The thriving market of illegal online gambling:
It has been found by researchers that more than 2
million dollars has been wagered through the Internet
alone in the United States the last year. Although most
of the online gaming websites offer legal offshore
gambling or casinos but the law does not permits the
Legalization of the whole process, not even
betting for sports or any other contests. Various
banking authorities & organizations like the visa,
master card, or the pay pal, have made sure of the fact
that without any congressional activity they will not
allow any of their customers to transact on the internet
for any wagering or betting.
Reasons why gambling should be illegal:
In many places gambling is considered as commerce while
in others it is a controlled vice. Big destinations such
as gambling capitals of the world has not made
online gambling
illegal despite of the fact that the government
cannot tax it because it may be seen as an arbitrary
control to do so. On the other hand it is very easy to
justify taking measures of controlling online gambling
as a harmful activity. Again it has been observed that
gambling also give rise to several anti social elements
such as alcoholism, money laundering or underage access.
In several cases it is also seen that it sometimes acts
as an addiction for the teenage groups who may fall prey
to such vulnerable activities at an early age.
