Since April 1 1998, gambling was sentenced as a legal
source of entertainment all over America. However, this
law varies with state and the games to be considered as
legal. Since the 1st of April all the
American states started paying more attention to
gambling so as to gain more entertainment revenue. In
this pursuit the state of Michigan cannot lag behind.
The state of Michigan has defined State Lottery, Horse
Racing, Charitable Gaming which includes bingo and
raffles, Indian Casino Gaming and Non-Indian Casino
Gaming as legal. Unlike Florida Michigan does not
legalize betting on dog races.
Laws for gambling in Michigan:
There are various gambling laws formulated by the state
government of Michigan. Some of them are as follows, one
has to be of 18 years of age and mentally normal to
start gambling. One should posses a license to open a
gambling house or to own a slot machine or roulette. If
any person wins a money amount of more than $50.00, by
playing cards, or dice or any other means of gambling
then he has to pay a fine of $1,000 or would be
imprisoned for 1 year. If one has lost some amount of
money or a valuable in the act of gambling, then he has
to repay it to the winner within 3 months. Otherwise he
has to pay a fine which would be 3 times the amount to
be repaid.
Types of gambling in Michigan:
Michigan has around 26 casinos in total. Some of them
are the Detroit Casino, Harris Casino, Northville
Casino, The Mt. Pleasant Casino which has 79 table games
and is the largest in
Michigan, and
the list goes on. The state of Michigan has allowed 3
casinos in Detroit city. Thus this city has the maximum
casinos. Motorcity Casino, Greektown Casino and MGM
Grand Detroit are the 3 Detroit Casinos. The state
lottery of Michigan dates back to 1972. It is the
largest single source of accumulating state revenue in
Michigan. There are around 6 horse racing tracks
operating currently in Michigan. Some of the horse
racing tracks in Michigan are Great Lakes Downs,
Northville Downs, Mt. Pleasant Meadows, and Sorts Creek
Raceway. The charitable gaming such as bingo and riffle
are conducted by the Michigan lottery.
But as the saying goes, every coin has two sides.
Similarly with growing number of casinos and other
gambling games the security or an individual in Michigan
has been endangered. Thus the crime rate is increasing
rapidly. And there is a loss of investment in other
sport fields. But precaution is better than cure and so
one must learn to play safe.
