Addiction Gambling
by Jerry "Jet"

An addiction is a condition where a
person does an activity more by compulsive habit than by
choice or chance. Gambling is one such activity that has
people can get addicted to. Gambling is an activity that
is purely dependent on luck. No one can predict when
fortune could favor someone and make him rich or turn a
wealthy man into a pauper. Gambling exists in many forms
and is considered one of the easiest of ways to make
money.
What leads to gambling addiction?
Usually anyone starts
gambling more because of a natural curiosity than by the
need to earn money out of it. What starts as a mere
trial at a game of gamble can lead to a habit and then
to an addiction where the person is unable to control
his urge to gamble and try his fortune at winning the
game. One may start gambling with small amounts of money
and at comparatively less riskier games but may soon end
up with gambling addiction, putting large amounts of
money on games which tend to get riskier and have more
possibilities of making one lose not just the money but
control over one’s ability to stop as well.
Compulsive Gambling as an addiction
Gambling at casinos, card
games and poker rooms is common. Gambling also occurs
when people get involved in bets, horse races and other
games where money is involved and the winner gets all.
Many people start gambling only because they want to try
their luck at winning some extra money. This leads on to
gambling addiction. A few initial cases of beginner’s
luck where one sees oneself winning money over what one
has bet can inspire more gambling and that too with more
money. This gradually becomes a compulsive habit and an
addiction and can do more harm to the person than just
proving to be the cause of decrease in wealth.
Problems due to gambling addiction
Gambling addiction can
lead to many problems for a person. Not only does
gambling addiction harm a person financially, it can
also upset the person mentally by making him a
compulsive gambler who believes luck will eventually
make him win. Social acceptance for a gambler is
negative and people generally find themselves staying
away from persons known to be compulsive addicts to
gambling as they are prone to borrowing money from
others to continue with their gambling activities when
they find themselves short of money.
