What is Pathological gambling?
Pathological gambling is the name given to the addictive
gambling or the compulsive gambling. This psychological
disorder is very common these days because a lot of
gamblers start playing cannot quit playing the gambling
when they want to. That is called the pathological
gambling. The problem is increasing because of the
increase in the numbers of casinos and players playing
gambling. Legalized gambling is one of the fastest
growing industries in the United States. For most of the
people who are related to this industry and also for all
industry's clients, gambling is fun and a form of safe
entertainment. But for the four to six percent of
gamblers who have become pathological or compulsive
gamblers, however, it can be a devastating disease that
negatively affects every aspect of their lives. It is
also economically not good for the gambler as there is
mostly the chance of loosing.
What are the cases of pathological gambling:
It
is been seen that almost 6-7% of the gamblers suffer
from this problem so this problem is not rare. In
extreme cases of problem gambling may become a mental
disorder. Pathological gambling is defined as persistent
and recurrent maladaptive behavior of the gamblers which
some of the problems like Preoccupation, Tolerance,
Restlessness, escape., chasing, loss of control and
illegal acts. Available research seems to indicate that
problem gambling is an internal tendency, and that
compulsive gambler is intended to risk money on whatever
game is available. This tendency of taking risk is not
the only abnormal behavior there are a lots of more
psychological disorders are shown by the pathological
gamblers.
What is the difference between casual and pathological
gambling?
There is a very minute difference between the
pathological gambling and the casual gambling. In the
casual gambling the person can quit gambling at any time
he wants and in the casual gambling but in the
pathological gambling the gambler is addicted to the
gambling and he can’t stop gambling. Pathological
gambling is a progressive psychological disease.
The disorder has mainly three phases Namely the winning
phase, loosing phase and desperation phase. During the
winning phase,
gamblers experience winning that leaves them with
unfair hopefulness that their winning will continue.
During the
losing phase, the gamblers often begin
proud about his wins that they have had, think more
about gambling and borrow money legally or illegally
to play gamble. During the
desperation phase,
there is a increase in the time spent on gambling.
