Legalized
Gambling: Laws Governing the Gambling Game

Legalizing gambling is done by passing a legislature for the
open support to gambling. Legalized gambling is often seen gaining momentum
in the places where it is considered as a way to supplement state revenue.
But the citizens and the governing body of these particular states often
ignore the costs that are associated with legalized gambling. If analyzed,
the social and economic cost will come out to be enormous. With gambling
being made legalized more and more people are seemed affected by the
outcomes. In the next few lines we will be discussing some of the ill
effects of legalized gambling.
A gap
between legal and illegal gambling
One of the many assumptions of
legalized gambling, which is
in the mind of the people, is that the government will institute legalize
gambling and will completely drive out illegal gambling. This proves that
the people are going to gamble at any cost whether legally or illegally.
Secondly if given a choice people will naturally opt to
gamble in a state sponsored program because it will be regulated. In this
way the legalization of gambling will make many people gamble who otherwise
are away from this evil practice. Generally it is stated that legalized
gambling will root out illegal gambling, but to see practically just the
opposite is true. Legal gambling acts as a momentum for illegal gambling.
Causes of
growth of illegal gambling
The growth of illegal gambling in many areas
where legalized gambling exists is simple. Firstly organized crime or
legalized gambling often uses the free publicity of the state run lotteries
and para-mutual betting to run there own number games. Secondly many betters
choose to gamble illegally rather then legally.
With a bookie they can bet on credit and don’t
have to report their winnings to the government. These are the two things
which a gambler can’t do when he chooses to gamble legally and this proves
why illegal gambling holds a strong root even with the existence of
legalized form of gambling.
