What is illegal
gambling?
Title 18, United States Constitution, Sec. 1955, makes
the illegal gambling a Federal crime or offense for
anyone to conduct it. According to the title 18, United
States Constitution, Sec. 1955 the illegal gambling
business is defined as to be a gambling business which:
1. Is a violation of the law of the state in which it is
conducted; and
2. Involves five or more persons who conduct, finance,
manage, supervise, direct or own all or part of such
business; and
3. Has been or remains in substantially continuous
operation for a period in excess of thirty days, or has
gross revenue of $2,000 in any single day.
What are the activities which cause the illegal
gambling?
There are many types of gambling activities which come
under the definition of the illegal gambling. The
activity is legal or not depends upon the laws of that
particular state. An activity can be legal in one state
and the same activity can be illegal to the other state.
The laws in then Las Vegas are the most flexible and in
the New York and Nova Scotia the gambling activity is
illegal. The term illegal is all unsanctioned gambling
activities, where money, goods, services or commodities
are bet or wagered for profit or entertainment are
illegal. In order to legalize these activities these
activities should be authorized and also regularized by
the state government. The New York is one of the states
in the United States of America which has prohibited the
illegal gambling activity. In the New York no lottery or
the sale of lottery tickets or pool-selling or
book-making, or any other kind of gambling are illegal
except the lotteries operated by the state. But now with
the universal access to computers and technical
modernization in Internet it is easy to commit the
illegal gambling activity. The illegal online gambling
is growing exponentially, it is found out that Internet
gambling sites have increased from 35 in 1997 to roughly
1,800 today. The Internet has made illegal gambling
accessible to millions of Americans because it is very
hard to stop the illegal gambling.
Problems Associated with illegal Gambling activities:
There are many kinds of problem which are associated by
the illegal
gambling such as it eases Criminal Activities,
encourages youth gambling, and also places a toll on
society. To get rid of these problems there is a need
for strong laws.
