Gambling Support Groups

What is the need for a gambling support
group? Don’t confuse yourself by thinking one of these promotes gambling.
No, in fact it is set up to get people out of this habit. As the urge to
gamble increases day by day, the individual who is addicted looses all
interest in all other activities of life. He starts loosing control over his
gambling behavior and enters a phase wherein he risks not only his but the
life of many other related persons.
The addict’s family, friends, work associate
and every other person in relation to him are in danger of ruining their
life. The relationship takes a set back with all these people. The urge
starts getting more and more recurrent and leads to a behavior where the
gambler gets depressed, unemployed, and alone and even in some cases
suicidal. Gambling support groups help in bringing about change and
normality back into the lives of such addicts.
Signs that indicate you are heading towards
problem gambling
-
If you are
followed by too many bill collectors.
-
If you gamble to
escape hard work, worry or trouble.
-
You gamble out
of frustration.
-
Your spouse
hides money for gambling, promises to quit it, but yet continues.
Any of the above signs or any other than
these, indicating a rising addiction to gambling means you require a
gambling support group.
Their works
What basically these support groups do is to
re-install faith in the addict. A gambler gets addicted to gambling since he
sees that hard work does not pay as well as gambling does. These support
groups organize certain rehabilitation programs such as exchange of views,
which makes the participants see themselves in a different light. It
installs spiritual growth in them to help them acknowledge responsibility of
their life and that of others as well.
