Gambling is a growing attraction all over the world and
nobody can deny this fact. The coming of online gambling
casinos and games has accelerated the growth of gambling
even more. Well even as online casinos and gambling
games attract a global audience, the gambling casinos
continue to hold their own. So, which are the cities
where there are ground casinos and where can you enjoy
the real fun of gambling? Well, in a lot of cities. Some
gambling cities legally and some illegally,
tend to offer a lot of options as far as gambling is
concerned.
The Cities Which Are Famous For Gambling –
Nevada is the first state which legalized casinos in the
year 1931. Since then, the city of Las Vegas has
steadily grown into the gambling capital of the world
during the mid-20th century. Until 1978, Nevada had a
monopoly over the legal casino gambling in the United
States. After that casinos were legalized in Atlantic
City and New Jersey also.
Lotteries today are another lucrative form of gambling
offering a wide variety of games that includes weekly
drawings, instant “scratch” tickets, daily games, and
super-lottos with prizes increasing until there is a
winner. State lotteries were introduced in 1963 when New
Hampshire created a government-run game and many other
states followed the same suit. By the early 21st
century, all ten Canadian provinces and about 80 percent
of the U.S. states had laws that allow government-run
lotteries. Overall lotteries tend to make up about 25
percent of all the legal gambling revenue in the United
States.
Gambling has exploded in
popularity in the last two decades of the 20th century.
Spurred by the legalization of gaming on Native American
reservations in the late 1980s, gambling revenues soared
from $8 billion to $15 billion from 1988 to 1994. Seeing
the potential for huge profits, more and more states and
municipalities started legalizing gambling. Lottery
games proliferated and offered more and larger prizes,
though often by making the chances of winning much less.
By 2004, about 36 states had legalized casino gambling
to stimulate their economies and for creating jobs,
either commercially or specifically on Native American
lands. The television shows featuring poker tournaments
also attract high ratings, giving casinos and card rooms
valuable free publicity.
