Councils on
Gambling

Gambling includes all gambling behavior patterns that compromise, disrupt or
damage personal, family or vocational pursuits and the essential features of
gambling are increasing preoccupation with gambling, a need to bet more money
more frequently, restlessness or irritability when attempting to stop, chasing
losses, and loss of control manifested by continuation of the gambling behavior
in spite of mounting, serious, negative consequences. While in extreme cases,
problem gambling can result in financial ruin, legal problems, loss of career
and family, or even suicide and these effects the family members, children,
close friends, your job and also ruins your life. Therefore there is some
council that helps us to stop gambling.
Councils on gambling are:
The most known council is the ‘National Council on Problem Gambling’ and its
mission is to increase public awareness of pathological gambling, ensure the
widespread availability of treatment for problem gamblers and their families,
and to encourage research and programs for prevention and education as we known
problem gambling is gambling behavior which causes disruptions in any major area
of life: psychological, physical, social or vocational.
While another one is, ‘Council of Australian Governments' Communiqué’ where it
agreed that preventing and addressing the negative consequences from problem
gambling are the joint responsibilities of governments, the gambling industry,
communities and individuals. Also they agreed that the Ministerial Council on
Gambling will auspice the development of a national strategic framework, to be
implemented by State and Territory governments, around prevention, early
intervention and continuing support, building effective partnerships and
national research and evaluation.
‘The Council on Compulsive Gambling of New Jersey’ has been helping problem and
compulsive gamblers as well as those affected by this illness since 1983. The
Council on Compulsive Gambling of New Jersey, Inc. was one of the pioneers in
the compulsive gambling field and remains one of the leaders in providing
professional and compassionate services to a wide range of audiences and they
take no position neither for, nor against legalized gambling. The
Council’s mission is to provide
prevention, education and referral services to anyone affected by this illness
in short help people to stop gambling.
Another is ‘First Nation Addiction Rehabilitation Foundation (FNARF)’ whose
mission is to promote and maintain healthy lifestyles that enhance healthy
individuals, families and communities also to promote peoples well being through
increasing use of social, emotional, spiritual and physical resources. In
addition they want to provide cost effective, holistic alternatives to deal with
problem gambling activity.
