Introduction:
Poker is a game in which each player gets 5 cards it is
played with a standard deck of 52 cards. The cards are
ranked from high to low in the order Ace, King, Queen,
Jack, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, and 2. Aces are always
given the highest order high. Aces are valued much more
than Kings which are worth more than Queens which are
worth more than Jack, and so on. The cards are also
separated into four suits. The winner is decided
according to the combination of cards. The player who
gets the best combination of all wins. The following
combinations are given below:
Starting with the strongest:
Royal flush:
10, J, Q, K, A of the same suit, this is the strongest
hand in all of
poker.
Straight flush:
Series of any 5 consecutive cards of the same suit
4
of a kind:
4
cards of the same rank having any hand, the fifth card
does not matter.
Full house:
A
hand that consists of three cards of the same rank and
two other cards of the same rank. In other words, a full
house is a three-of-a-kind with a pair. A full house is
referenced as the three cards “full of” the pair.
Flush:
When the hand has five cards of the same suit. The rank
of the cards doesn’t matter, so long as they are all the
same suit. If two players have a flush, then the player
with the highest card of that suit wins the hand. If the
highest cards are equal, move to the second, then to the
third, etc.
Straight:
Five cards of sequence in any suit. If two players have
straights, the straight with the highest card wins.
Two pair:
Equally ranked cards of two pairs.
Pair:
Equally ranked two cards.
High card:
A
hand that doesn’t form any of the following combinations
given above. When comparing two of the hands, whichever
player has the highest card is crowned the winner.
In
hands where the combinations are the same that is if two
players have for example 3 Kings, then the tie is broken
with the kicker, the next highest card. Which ever
player has the higher kicker is the winner of the hand.
If two players have the exact same five cards, the pot
is split and the pot is equally divided between the
players.
