Adolescent gambling
problem
For adolescent
gamblers, gambling is associated with a number of
problems. Few researches suggest that a direct
relationship exists between age of onset of underage
gambling and the severity of future gambling problems.
Many empirical investigations have consistently shown
that adolescent pathological gambling is positively
related to the use of alcohol, tobacco, and addictive
substances. It turns toward substance abuse and to
criminality including stealing, drug pushing and
prostitution. Other problems include suicide attempts,
disruptions to relationships with family and friends and
educational difficulties like truancy and poor academic
performance. The causal relationship between gambling and
family problems could be the reverse. Another study
found that the majority of adolescent gambling machine
players reported that family problems precipitated their
addiction. The severity of adolescent gambling problems
is associated with gambling regularly and with the
amount of money spent and adolescents who gamble
regularly and spend large amounts of money may be more
likely to do so on a wide range of activities rather
than on a few.
Inhabitant habit
Adolescent gamblers
are likely to have one or both parents who gamble.
Researcher found a direct relationship between
adolescent pathological gambling and parent’s frequency
of gambling on fruit machines. It is also found that
adolescents whose parents are pathologically gambled
were less likely to have gambling problems themselves.
An inverse relationship can be found between parental
and adolescent problem gambling. The adolescents may
have been deterred from gambling by experiencing the
problems generated by their parent’s excessive gambling.
The adolescent problem gamblers may have perceived their
parent’s gambling behaviour as not severe, given that
parental gambling was assessed by the adolescents.
Keep an eye on
adolescent
The gambling
habit in adolecent can creat lots of problem like
selling of personal
items, have large amount of cash on person, borrows
from school friends without repaying, have unexplained
absences from school, seems moody, unfocused, nervous or
depressed, is overly worried with sports scores, and
withdrawn from relationships, school groups or
activities.
A harmless activity
Gambling is not at all
harmless activity. It is a pastime that can develop into
a disastrous problem that can affect anybody. Being able
to access prevention and education services where one
lives is vital to the recovery process. Educations must
be able to classify signs of a gambling problem. Public
consciousness and education about he problem gambling is
vital to sound decision-making for parents and teens.
