Legalized gambling is being made legal by the government
of the country. Many rules and regulations needed to be
followed to get involved in legalized gambling. Gambling
is very common in society of today. Government can earn
lot of revenue through legalized gambling. Gambling is
bad for both economy and society as a whole. Gambling is
popular among every age group starting from college
students to old age people. People who are involved in
gambling generally have the feeling that they control
their destiny and have the ability to take risk.
Effect of gambling on
the society:
Increase in the
legalized gambling will lead the economy towards the
declining path instead of progress. Gambling, leads to
decline in local business, because people get more
involved in gambling than other entertainment
activities. Gambling does provide with some employment
opportunities but because of gambling has legalized,
gambling costs very high to the tax payer. The positive
aspects of legalized gambling are very less as compared
to its side effects that are very harmful to the
society. Gambling makes the person habituated to it.
Gambler will start spending more of his time and money
on gambling that is required for other activities. Time
and energy that the gambler is supposed to devote
towards his work and family is being wasted in gambling.
Money that should be used for family well being is now
diverted towards the gambling. Needs of the family are
not satisfied creating lot of tension in the family.
Children suffer the most in families, which are affected
by the gambling. They lose their confidence and feel
lonely. Family stop taking part in social gatherings,
which further makes them support less. Family becomes
more pressurized and married life also gets affected.
Progress becomes very slow where people in economy face
such problems.
Gambling is very closely
related to the crime. Gambler needs lots of money to
fulfill his desire of gambling. It is not always
possible to win through gambling. Gamblers may first
steal money from their home and after that they may
continue stealing from outside. Crime makes the growth
of economy really difficult. Gamblers may follow
practices like mortgaging their house and other worthy
items. This further creates more problems for the family
of the gambler.
Increase in gambling and
problems go parallel, some gamblers or his family
members also commit suicide due to uncontrollable
circumstances. Legalized gambling leads to grow gambling
at much faster rate. People are not afraid of government
and they can play more freely. Legalized gambling also
act as initiative for people to start gambling as there
is no fear.
