As reported by the Goldstream Gazette: ".Plugging the slots while downing a
beer is still a no-go at Victoria's only casino after View Royal refused to
support its bid for a new liquor licence Tuesday. "View Royal council lauded
Great Canadian Casinos as a good corporate citizen, but unanimously denied
its application to sell and serve drinks on its gaming floor. "Council
opposed the application for varying reasons, but left the door open to
future applications in its ruling, saying it couldn't support a licence 'at
this time.' "The B.C. Liquor Control and Licencing Branch has the final say
on a licence, but said it wouldn't move without View Royal's consent. The
Town holds another trump card: existing zoning doesn't allow for a
liquor-primary licence on the land. ".Howard Blank, Great Canadian Casino's
spokesperson, said the 35,000-square -foot casino will try again with
different ideas, including how entertainment venues might be incorporated
into the 'limited footprint" of the property.'."
