Online gaming giant Bodog.com announced today that it has extended an offer
to Triple Crown Productions, LLC to put up the $5-million prize for the
owner whose horse wíns all three races of the Triple Crown.
The offer, which was presented to Triple Crown Productions, LLC last week,
comes on the heels of news that horse racing's Triple Crown will be run
without a title sponsor for the first time in nearly 20 years. Without a
sponsor putting up the money, it is likely that there will not be a
$5-million bonus for wínning the Triple Crown title.
"Wínning all three of these thoroughbred horse races represents the pinnacle
of horse racing," says Calvin Ayre, Founder and CEO of Bodog.com. "Bodog.com
would be honored to play a part in ensuring that one of the sport's greatest
and rarest prizes is kept intact."
The Triple Crown is horse racing's most prestigious and important racing
series. On Saturday, May 6, an estimated 25 million fans in the US and
millions more around the world will tune into the "most exciting two minutes
in sports" and the first leg of the Triple Crown, the 132nd Kentucky Derby
at Louisville's Churchill Downs. The 131st Preakness Stakes runs at Pimlico
Racecourse in Baltimore on May 20, and the 138th Belmont Stakes at Belmont
Park in Long Island, N.Y., on June 10 rounds out the Triple Crown.
